The important part is how fitting a capstone it is for the last 12 months.
It was harder than I had anticipated, mostly because my knee went bonkers at mile 4 (IT band, for those who know) and it took a lot of willpower to finish. It hurt. I didn't quite reach my time goal. And all of those things made it an even better representation of my life change in 2009.
The Witch will have some pictures later, I'm sure, and her own perspective. It was absolutely wonderful to see her hanging out at mile 18 (and later at mile 25), just when I needed a good pick-me-up.
I could barely move right after the race. I couldn't walk yesterday. Today I can do stairs without holding the handrail, but if I concentrate.
So how does one celebrate that much soreness? By signing up to do it again next year.

Congratulations Warlock!
Congrats! The first marathon is the worst (recovery wise). It get's easier---or less painful, I should say, with subsequent marathons.
What a great accomplishment. Congratulations, again!
That's terrific. Endure to the End my friend! :)
Good for you! I am so so impressed.
I am really proud of you Nick. All the press coverage makes it fun!
Honestly, the very best thing to do to be pain-free after a marathon is to take an as-cold-as-you-can stand it bath for about 5-10 minutes as soon as you can after the run. Then you take your long, hot shower. You'll be walking frontways down the stairs the very next day.
