Today...

Today, I feel like I look old, but I figure it's not going to get any better so I post this picture of myself, editing out the bump on my nose that Boo asks about every day.  I look like my mom.  (Not that your old or have bumps on your nose, Mom.)  I went to the gym, dropped off the kids in the child center and worked out for an hour on the bike and the treadmill.  Then I came home and soaked for forever in the bath (after feeding myself and the kids lunch).  Boo found me in there and started crying because she wanted to go swimming.  Right away.  She walked away and when I came out of the bathroom I found her in a heap, asleep on the floor.

Today the Warlock went out and biked for hours.  He amazes people when he says he's only been biking for a few months.  He's a natural, I guess.  The Warlock looks young.  He's in the best shape of his life right now.  After his bike ride, he did some computer stuff and then took Bardo and Pippi to the store to buy fishing poles.  Bardo was so excited to show me how he could cast--in my room.  Pippi was thrilled with the adult-size pole, in the color black, that the Warlock bought her.  The Warlock grilled chicken and made corn on the cob for dinner.  We discovered today that chicken tenderloins are the perfect grilling size and cook through all the way without getting to dry on the outside.  The Warlock also served pie and ice cream for dessert.  I ate some, but I shouldn't have.

Boo is getting so big. Her favorite books are Where the Wild Things Are and the Hungry Frog.  She also likes Owen and The Seven Silly Eaters.  She can recite many of the phrases in them.  Her favorite bedtime song is The Church of Jesus Christ.  It feels good to sing that song to her at night and know that I am part of something bigger than myself.  Boo has dark eyelashes and bright blue eyes, just like the Warlock.  She has a violent streak (I blame Bardo) and sometime will hit her siblings or her mother and sometimes house guests, but she is quickly apologetic and sounds cute when she says sorry.  She also gives warm hugs.  She's trying to figure out if she really wants to grow up and use the big potty all of the time.  She loves baby dolls, especially the noisy baby that she got from the Warlock's parents.

Today I'm afraid that Bardo will eat ice cream for breakfast tomorrow and have a terrible day.  I think he hid half of the bike lock I've been using to keep him out of the refrigerator.

Bardo had a great time fishing today, even though he only brought in a clump of moss.

Pippi started the morning by begging me to allow her to make French toast for everyone.  How could I deny her?  She even cleaned up afterwards.  We've been having a lot of talks about self-care, lately.  Pippi does such an incredible job keeping Bardo and Boo entertained that she gets tired and forgets to do things like brush her teeth or hair or practice the piano.  The Warlock also always has little errands for her to do like fetching his laptop or blackberry from remote rooms of the house.  I explained to her that sometimes we have to do things for ourselves.  I wish I would have looked in the mirror and given myself that lecture, yearly, from the time I got married.  "But I'm not selfish, am I Mom?" she asked me, her eyes bright.  Dear Pippi you, my dear, are the most unselfish person on the planet...  All summer I've watched her spend her allowance money on little toys and gum balls for Bardo and Boo. She spends hours each day playing with them and refereeing their behavior.  That girl is such a helper to me.

Dearest Silly Witch,
I don't think you look old at all. However, Pippi is turning into quite the young woman. When did that happen? Because I don't remember aging at all. :)
Love,
Me

You are truly beautiful! And Jess is right, how did your children age so quickly in just one year? - Love You!

All my children are incredibly attractive. And, yes, I do look old, and I probably have a bump on my nose. None of us can expect to look the same as we did ten years ago. I earned every one of these grey hairs teaching kids to drive. Let the movie stars deal with the paranoia of always needing to look 25.
