The Well-Check

Bardo had a well-check this past week.  He passed his vision and hearing tests with flying colors.  He weighed in within the 87th percentile and measured  in the 97th percentile for height.  His BMI is in the 47th percentile.

Whenever we go to the doctor for well-checks they ask us a series of questions.  About 50% of them concern the child's risk of being exposed to lead poisoning.  Another 25% of the questions concern the child's habits.  Does he get 1 hour of exercise everyday?  How many ounces of milk would you say he drinks each day?  Does he dress himself? etc.  I'm grateful for Dr. Chin and her nurses that help me take care of my kids.  I should have taken a picture of her asking Bardo if he could touch his thumb to his wrist.  She could tell just by looking at him that he is double-jointed, just like his Daddy.  I'm grateful for nurses that can give four shots before a child even has time to cry.  Bardo, walking out of the doctor's office said, "I thought I was going to get more shots, but then I realized she was giving me band-aids."  And he laughed out loud, and he bragged about how he didn't cry for the rest of the day.

Answering the exercise question could be interesting. I mean do you know any mothers that take their five year old out and run them for a solid hour each day? But five year olds are "exercising" all day long. At least I always felt like I'd been running for a solid 14 hours after a day with five year old.
