Go Ask Dad

My children have fallen into bad habits, watching too much TV, making messes, etc when they are bored.  What they really want is for someone to entertain them.  Unfortunately, a mothers work is never done and mama cannot stay awake for more than one or two stories in the afternoon. The Warlock loves to relax when he's home.  He retires to the media room (a.k.a. man cave) to watch TV or play video games without the worry of household management.  Since I'm the stay-at-home parent, I'm the go-to-girl. Household management and all child tasks come through me first. Poopy diaper? Go tell mom.  Need a story? Go tell mom.  Want someone to watch you ride your bike? Go tell mom.  Want to go for a walk? Go get mom.  Toilet Clogged?  Go get mom.  I'm fine doing all of these things most of the time, but last Sunday as my dear Bardo wandered fitfully around the house I knew it wasn't me that he needed.  "You want to play?"  I asked him.  His eyes lit up.  And then I said, "Go ask Dad."  He didn't seem so confident as he made his way up the stairs because I believe he has never in his life asked anyone to play with him.  But he asked, and  of course, the Warlock delivered.  The kids felt like it was Christmas.
An new kind of relaxing for the Warlock in the Silly Witch House Sunday afternoon post-church attire.

This weekend Boo refused to have me change her diaper.  My response:  "Fine.  Go ask Dad."  She was pleased to fetch the diaper and wipes so the Warlock could help her out of that particularly sticky, smelly problem.

Bardo reported a clogged toilet to all available ears (my ears are always available) yesterday.  My response:  "Go tell Dad..." Last night the Warlock made a family activity out of replacing the toilet.  And, it was the perfect weekend to replace the toilet since Uncle Drey was here to help lug the toilets around.

So you see, my new battle cry:  Go ask Dad...  I wish I'd discovered it 10 years ago.

I want to make it clear this is just a natural result thing. I never know about any of these problems because nobody ever tells me.

"Go ask dad!" I am sure this little tidbit of wisdom will save my sanity for many years to come. Thanks Maren! I'm glad I found your blog. We've got one too (although updates are sporadic at best). I'll send you an invite.

Maren, if I'd only known you didn't already know about "Go ask Dad." I love those three words and have used them for years! :)

I remember Gail Blodgett telling me that her kids walked right past their father laying on the couch and up a flight of stairs to get her assistance with something. And she said, "Go ask Dad!"

I'm waiting patiently for the day when Kolby finishes his residency so I don't have to feel guilty about telling the kids to "go ask dad." And I'm glad we aren't the only ones who hop into our pajamas after church.
