Dear Bardo,

I want to remember forever how you are in this picture, sweet, nature-loving, happy, compliant... But when you grow up and have your own three year old, I don't want you to think that you were like this ALL the time. This is the year you have refused to take naps. You eat only a few select foods. Cashews, chocolate, watermelon, and berries are your favorites. You like to hunt and gather your own food. You also eat better if you are allowed to walk around with your food. Today while I was preparing dinner and talking to Pippi you popped open a couple of cans of chicken noodle soup and put them in a large mixing bowl. You ate them up for your dinner, cold, and then put yourself to bed at 6:00 pm in your clothes. You adeptly scale the shelves of the pantry to get to the chocolate chips. You run into my room, turn on the TV, make yourself comfortable on my bed, and operate our remotes. When I remove you from my room, you often run right back in and try to lock me out of my room. When you get angry you say really mean things, but I know you don't mean it. You're just telling me you don't like me because you're tired and a bit out of balance. Even though you are a little crazy sometimes, I could bottle you up. I love your energy, your excitement to learn new things, your resolve to get things done and fast, and the way your lean little body melts in relief against mine when I take you to your bed for some bed room time.

So when you grow up and have a crazy boy of your own just love him. Promise?

Yours Forever,

Mom

"Most of you will marry and have children. They will become the source of your greatest pride and happiness. I hope so. Rear them in love. You don't have to kick them around. You don't have to get angry with them. You just have to love them. If they make mistakes, forgive them and help them to avoid a repetition. But let them see in you their truest and best friend, their constant support."--President Gordon B Hinckley

How could you not love that face. And I love that quote. That "not getting angry" part is such a challenge!

I wonder what it is about eating out of large bowls that is so enticing...as I recall, that was his favorite way to eat cereal while I was there.
