Tips

This "winter" Pippi decided to try a new sport, basketball.  Of course the Warlock and I were thrilled.  And we are even more thrilled that Pippi seems to like basketball, a lot.  She's a real hustler, especially on defense. She is very fun to watch, mostly because she is so cute and having so much fun.  She likes to give her opponents "tips."  "Mom, I gave Jeremy a tip;  I told him to run around a lot to get open."  Pippi is very very good at running around a lot on the court.  Next year, if she decides to play, we are certain that she will know where the ball is as she runs around.  Of course the Warlock and I like to give her a few tips of our own.  My tip:  "Pippi, if you stand under the basket, you're not going to get any rebounds.  The only time you'll catch the ball is if it's going in."  The Warlock is full of tips:  hands up on defense, stay between your man and the basket, you don't have to run all the way to the basket before finding your man, and probably more.  He's the main person driving her to practice and is of course full of basketball wisdom.  Pippi seems to take our advice to heart, and is improving rapidly.  Look at her!  Before her basketball pictures, she braided her own hair.  Her coach asked her for a big "Harry Potter" smile, and of course, she obliged.

Watching these games brings back such good memories for me.  It would only be better if my Dad, chock full of wisdom, could come and watch her, too.  Do you remember the adjustable basket in the "big basement" Dad?  Do you remember teaching me how to shoot and dribble?  Do you remember how good I felt about myself because I could play basketball?  I will never forget.
